AALAS Webinar: Bringing Sheep and Goats into Your Research Program

While small ruminants tend to be less common research models, they play very important roles in teaching and biomedical, agricultural and veterinary research. So whether you are a member of the IACUC, manage an animal facility, or are the principal investigator on the project that is bringing small ruminants into the research program, this webinar intends to educate and empower you to have the best program of veterinary care possible for these animals. We will dive into why small ruminants are good models for certain projects; what diseases to exclude and avoid; how you may be able to use existing facilities and caging to safely house them; some of the nuances regarding their daily care; and adequate provision of anesthesia and analgesia. We will also walk through a real life example highlighting the importance of proper implementation of pilot animals before you jump full steam into a large study.
