The Ferret (Mustela putorius furo): A (F)Unusual Carnivore Lab Animal WEB-078: The domestic ferret has many unique anatomical, physiological, and behavioral differences that separate it from other carnivores. The ferret also has special dietary, husbandry, and social needs that are important to understand when working with ferrets. This webinar will review important aspects of the ferret, including handling, restraint, common techniques, and examples of enrichment types that will make working with them enjoyable and ferrets a favorite animal! Presenter - Cathy A. Johnson-Delaney, DVM Dr. Cathy A. Johnson-Delaney received her DVM from Washington State University and has practiced avian and exotic animal medicine for over 30 years. Cathy has served as President of both the Association of Avian Veterinarians and the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians. She has also served as the Medical Director at the Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter, where she continues to be very involved. In addition, Cathy has published many papers and books on ferrets and exotic animals.
